Pennington Makes Finals in 2025 kykNET Kwêla Dorp van die Jaar (Town of the Year) competition
The beautiful coastal town of Pennington proudly made it to the finals of the 2025 kykNET Kwêla Dorp van die Jaar (Town of the Year) competition, representing KwaZulu-Natal. Although Bloemhof in the North West Province ultimately took the top prize, Pennington’s finalist status brought valuable national exposure to the KZN South Coast.
This competition celebrates the best towns across South Africa and Namibia with populations under 500,000. Pennington earned its place in the finals thanks to the efforts of Tidy Towns Pennington NPO and public support through SMS voting. The recognition highlighted the town’s unique attractions, including its Blue Flag beach, vibrant cafés, golf courses, forest trails, and welcoming accommodation options.
Being a finalist not only showcased Pennington’s charm and tourism potential but also reinforced the KZN South Coast’s reputation as a region of beautiful towns, friendly communities, and natural beauty. The achievement provided a platform for increased visitor interest and strengthened the destination’s profile on a national stage.
