Public Relations Update
In addition to sharing positive messaging around the KZN South Coast’s tourism and investment offerings through the #SummerReady and #UnlimitedOpportunities, we have attended to crisis PR and reputation management around the state of KZN South Coast beaches. Misunderstandings following media reports on the closure of Durban beaches led to the misapprehension by some that our beaches were also closed.
We are aware of the damaging effect this had on our KZN South Coast businesses, as we received reports of cancellations. We addressed the situation immediately, the relevant media were approached with our CEO’s SCTIE comments and Blue Flag status; this was included in publications such as the Rapport and Sunday Times. We are continuing to share the messaging about our beaches being safe and open through press releases and digital platforms. Our message is that we are #SummerReady, all of our beaches are open and we are ready to welcome visitors.
